What is rootedness?

Rooting is one of the assumptions that the Spanish government considers when granting a temporary residence permit to foreigners in an irregular situation and in irregular circumstances.

It is granted to foreigners who are in Spain without a residence or work permit, have family ties, or are integrated into society. But as with everything, certain requirements must be met, in addition to the necessary documentation.

What are the types of residency permits?

From this arise the three types:

Social

It is granted to foreigners with 3 years of residency. Social integration must be demonstrated through a report issued by the Autonomous Community or the City Council, or by having family ties with other resident foreigners or with Spaniards.

Labor

It is granted to foreigners with a continuous stay of more than 2 years and a relevant employment relationship for at least 6 months.

Familiar

It requires demonstrating a very significant family connection, for example, being the parent of a child born in Spain or the child of parents of Spanish origin. If it is a child, the foreigner must demonstrate that they are dependent on the child, live with them, or fulfill their parental obligations.
